During the two years of a residency in Sicily the works grew in scale as time spent in wide open environments and stretching horizons influenced the need to move, travel and reach. This large-scale series work born from a period of total physical immersion on the wild, isolated island of Levanzo, Marettimo and Favignana and their elemental  and dramatic landscapes. Leaving behind the relentless noise of London, the process shifted from observation to radical exposure—sleeping in remote coves, moving through silent forests, and embedding myself into a new way of life. The canvas at this scale taking long periods to complete turned the surface to and evolving terrain and territory to explore the new experiences of learning to be alone in an isolated landscape.

Sharp, structural lines begin to loosen, blur, and dissolve into the force of the surrounding environment. Moving between the darkness of ancient caves and the blinding intensity of open sun, the work traces a threshold state—where metropolitan armour breaks down, and something more instinctive and vital is revealed.
